Carl Perkins links Carl Perkins' influence as the quintessential rockabilly artist and his hit "Blue Suede Shoes" have played a big part in the development of every generation of rocker from the Beatles' George Harrison to the Stray Cats' Brian Setzer. His guitar style is so pervasive that modern players gravitate toward it, not even realizing that they're playing Carl Perkins' licks. As a singer, his interpretation of country ballads is every bit as fine as his better known rockers. Carl died in 1988.
