Bill Haley & The Comets are the First Band of Rock 'n' Roll. As a country group, The Saddlemen, they merged R&B into their work, having some success with covers of Rocket 88 and Rock This Joint. In 1952 they changed names, scoring the first Rock charting song in '53 with Haley's Crazy Man Crazy. Shake Rattle and Roll was a million-seller in 1954. Rock Around the Clock was a modest hit that year but exploded in popularity after being featured in the film, The Blackboard Jungle.
