Buddy Holly links
Buddy Holly started in his native Texas doing country music, eventually adding R&B numbers to the set list after meeting Elvis Presley. But success didn't come until he and the Crickets recorded hits "That'll Be the Day," "Peggy Sue" and "Oh, Boy!" On February 3, 1959 he, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens were killed in an airplane crash. One of the first to popularize the Fender Strat, Holly's influence was felt for decades from the Beatles to Weezer.
